We have developed our own in-house solutions for analysing airflow in small systems. This enables us to do some high resolution particle image velocimetry (or LASER sheet visualisation).
We have found this system invaluable to our understanding of some of the really complex acoustic/fluid interactions that take place.
In order to manipulate components within the chamber, we use precision stepper motors coupled with micro linear-rail positioning systems.
For imaging we used a CW green LASER with optics that enabled us to illuminate very thin slices of airflow seeded with particles.
Using this system, we were able to compare simulations with real world measurements and gain a much more detailed and faster understanding of the complex processes involved in our research.
